Jennifer Bailey was once happily married and completely in love with her husband Vincent. But that was all before the cruel hand of fate took his life in the war. She was left broken and alone. For the next few years, she returned to her parents' home and spent her days in a fog, her nights and dreams haunted by the ghost of a lost love.

For her parents it was equally hard to see her struggle so. In desperation and out of concern they asked her to consider the Matrimonial Advertisements section of the newspaper. After much deliberation, she final chooses to write to Michael Greene, who seems to be a fine upstanding gentleman. After only a few letters the two seem to have found the perfect match for one another. It all seems so perfect and without furthere delay Jennifer leaves the city she was born and raised in for Michael's country home.

But the man she meets is not the one she expected. He is hardly as upstanding as he had once appeared, what with his drink and apparent deception. She fears she has made a terrible mistake! But was it really a mistake? Or is that a bigger plan in the works? Will she ever be able to heal her broken heart? Will she find true happiness?
