Mary Noel Bleecker was born on April 16, 1901 in Bloomfield, New Jersey, and died on August 23, 2003 in Pacific Grove, California at the age of 102. She led a full and enriching life. In the early 1920s, after graduating from Douglas College and Rutgers University, Mary moved to Seattle, Washington, where she attended the University of Washington, taking her degree in Library Science. Throughout her lifetime, she worked in libraries in New Jersey, Washington, New York, and Maine. Following her retirement, she devoted more than twenty years writing this book, which was published in 1996 when Mary was 95 years of age. Beautifully written, this is a warm and convincing tale of young people caught up in the complicated web of happiness and grief, hazards and excitement, of the stirring time in which they lived.
