Emma is a traditional Amish wife—devoted, loving and completely dedicated to her beloved husband. She has faith in God that someday He will grant her the desire of her heart, a child born of their love. As their ten-year anniversary approaches, Emma prepares to celebrate the occasion with her husband Mark, but is devastated when a tragic accident takes away the man she loves and replaces him with a shell of his former self.

Although she remembers everything about their life together, Mark can remember absolutely nothing, and he insists on sleeping in a different room. She knows that she still loves him, but fears that his inability to remember will drive them apart for good. While beautiful Emma cannot force his memories to return, she struggles to find hope that they might return on their own someday.

“Think of a particular area, or an event, or even a trinket of some kind and help bring your memory back.”

“Emma...I don’t know. I don’t know what to do. I am still having trouble processing everything around here. How are you supposed to react when you wake up and remember nothing? I do not know who I am.”

“ need to figure it out!” Emma screamed.

Mark has never been so frustrated in his life. After the accident, he can remember the basics, such as how to hold a fork or tie his shoelaces. As far as the big things go, though, he draws a total blank. He has a beautiful wife and loving father, but can remember nothing about them before the accident, making him feel like they are strangers. In addition, no one seems to understand how hard it is for him to remember so little, and no one has any answers as to whether he hopes in vain for a complete recovery.

When the bishop of their Amish community threatens him with the ultimate punishment when he cannot take care of his family, Mark knows that he has reached an impasse. Either he must find some way to jog his memory, or he’ll lose everything that he’s learned that he once held dear. He must make new memories, remember how to work like a man, or he’ll be left with less than nothing…no memory and no family.

How will Emma cope with Mark’s injury?

Will Mark ever regain his memory or will he be further devastated by losing his home and family?
