Shelby Quinn has always only wanted three things out of life: to study the culinary arts in New York City, to open her own bakery, and to help her aging aunt run the family bed and breakfast. After a decade in New York, a plea for help has Shelby racing home to Minnesota to cook up ideas on how to attract enough business to keep the Jewel B&B off the auction block and out of the hands of big city developers. So with Shelby’s days devoted to restoring the magnificent old lake house, spending time with Garrett Weber, the local veterinarian—and her childhood crush—is definitely not on the menu!

Rett Weber doesn’t know what he hates most: the fact that he’s stuck in his home town of Aspen Point, or the fact that his life is on hold while he is. But he promised to keep his late father’s vet clinic running, so here he was, stuck in small-town limbo where the only things catching his eye are the shows on Netflix…at least until Shelby walks through the clinic door with an injured dog.

Yearning to return to city life, Rett had sworn off any and all relationships that might keep him tied to the little Lake Superior community, but he can’t deny his attraction to the enigmatic young chef. Shelby knows better than to let her feelings for Rett reignite, but the more she sees him, the less control she has. Though they both agree to a strictly temporary relationship, neither can deny that their feelings seem anything but temporary. But as the problems at the Jewel escalate, and their passions flare, both Shelby and Rett are forced to decide which paths they really want their lives to take, and if those paths might include each other.
