"“I am sorry, but Mathew and his battalion went into the desert. And there was a storm that we had no idea it was coming, and they ended up getting lost. We have tried to establish any forms of communication with them but to no avail. At this point, the only thing that we can fear happening is the worst. Once again, I am sorry.”

At first, it felt as though Mary hadn’t heard a damn thing that they were saying. It seemed as though they lost her when they said that they were sorry. For a moment, Mary thought that having to stay without her husband for a whole six months was pain and torture. But now she just realized how incredibly painful it was having to receive the bad news when he was only a week away from coming home.

Was life fair? The answer to that question was an affirmative HELL NO. At that moment, all she could feel was her knees knocking and her lungs failing. Mary was clearly struggling to remain conscious and after a short struggle, she decided that maybe it was a good idea just to take off the shoal that she had been wearing.

But before she had the opportunity to do so, her strength failed her, and she fell from behind. Luckily for her, the Marines who had come to deliver the bad news had seen the signs, and they immediately made a point of running towards her and grabbing her right before she fell.

There was no point of living this life without Mathew, and that was final. No amount of compensation or condolences was going to make her feel any better. As far as she was concerned, she was done. "
