Sweat poured from Chantelle’s brow as she breathed how she had been taught. She was eight months pregnant but her son was coming. Stanley’s eyes were filled with anxiety but he was as steady as a rock, holding his wife’s hand and breathing with her. He never thought he was going to be a father and in mere minutes, their son, would be born. God was still in the blessing business.
Even in pain, Chantelle realized no one was there for her, no woman that is. Vera wasn’t feeling up to it as she went through her battle with cancer. She had tried to come and was unable. Chantelle’s mom was gone and as an only child she had no siblings and no close relatives. There was Anise but in the past four months she had barely spoken to her half-sister. She saw her in church and nodded on her way out. She heard Anise was also expecting but knew she was surrounded with the support of Krista, her best friend and Melanie Rogers who was dating Maynard. Tears rolled down her cheeks and she could not say what she was really crying for. Stanley squeezed her hand in support.

“You look concerned baby…” Farrell said to Anise who snuggled next to him. Since Stanley called to say he was taking Chantelle to the hospital she had been concerned. She knew an eight month baby was viable and the last time she saw Chantelle she was huge.
“I was thinking about Chantelle and I know she has no one with her, I mean no woman. If I had gotten pregnant a couple years ago I would have likely been the same but I know in seven months, Krista, Melanie and a few other women from the church will be there. It makes me sad; she is as mean as a red hen but…”
“Why don’t you call Krista and the two of you go over there…” Anise looked up at her husband and in that moment decided she would. What is the worse that could happen?
