Robert and Joy are left behind during the London season. Alone and bored, they find entertainment in sending anonymous letters to an unknown stranger. Slowly they discover they have more in common with this stranger than just idleness and a real friendship blossoms. A tragic series of events forces the two to finally meet face to face, changing their lives forever. Told in their own words in a series of letters and newspaper clippings, this novel reveals the two sides to their story: that which they portray to society, and that which they hide in their hearts.
