Five years down and only thirteen to go, but who’s counting anyways! Raising her nephew and keeping his inheritance intact was not how Dahlia imagined she would be spending her young adult life. Getting married and having children of her own was more of what she had in mind. At least she had gotten the married part down even if it didn’t work out the way she had expected. And at least there were children, they just weren’t hers. Was it time for Dahlia to quit thinking about what she wanted and just focus on what she was asked to do? Perhaps her time would be better spent teaching her nephew to become the best person that he could be and stop worrying about her own future? Perhaps it would be better if she put her personal needs and dreams on hold for the next thirteen years. And then there was Michael. He had dreamed about being the first police officer in his family. He stared working on that goal while he was still in high school by studying the laws and how the judicial system worked. It didn’t matter how much he wanted it once he saw just how much corruption there was in his home town he learned bitter disappointment about his career choice. Where had he gone wrong in his thinking? At least he gave it his best shot but after ten years he finally admitted it wasn’t going to work out for him and it was time to rethink his life choices. Would changing careers be enough, or was it time for him to move on? What changes did he need to make in his life to lead him where he was meant to be?

Dahlia Blake was raised to know her own mind, to set her goals and then work on achieving them. Could she help it if she had been knocked off her own path when her brother died leaving her guardian of his young son? Her path had been completely altered from the world as she knew it and now she was going to have to find her own way once again. The new town didn’t want her, or did they? How much of that conflict had been a result of one man who wanted what she had? Her path had several forks but none of them would allow her to avoid all of the bumps ahead. Was Michael McCain one of those forks or was he on a totally separate path? It seemed as though they were both headed to completely different locations with just a brief crossing of the two paths. That was until Michael realized that his dreams actually lead him down the path Dahlia was traveling. Would she be willing to share her route with him, or would he remain on his own?
