The story continues for the members of Elite Security, when Angela Porter, Seth and Mitch’s administrative assistant joins the youngest partner of the company, Gunner Wolfe, in an undercover investigation. Posing as college students, they put themselves in the middle of a game of cat and mouse, in an effort to discover the truth behind the death of a journalism student that was ruled a suicide. As each day passes and they learn more details, the evidence leads them on a twisted trail toward a possible serial killer.
For Angela, this is the first case she has been allowed to work as an investigator, and she is determined to prove her worth to the company and the owners who have become a second family to her. What she does not anticipate, however, is the searing attraction between her and Gunner. As the tension builds between them, she finds his overbearing protectiveness of her exasperating and an interference in her ability to do her job. As frustrating as this is, she is overwhelmed by her attraction for this man. She knows all about his reputation as a love ‘em and leave ‘em kind of guy, but that fact fails to dissuade the growing chemistry between them. And if her life is not complicated enough, she finds herself being stocked by a casual acquaintance, which only intensifies Gunner’s possessive behavior.
Gunner has his own path to blaze in Elite Security. His normal caseload consists of hacking into security systems to show their vulnerability, and to design a better product for their clients. As the youngest owner, however, he is the best person to play the role of a college student even though he would prefer to work behind the scenes. Being thrown into such close working conditions with Angela puts him in uncharted territory. His attraction to the fiery redhead drives him to act impulsively, knowing full well, he has never been capable of anything but a short fling. He has been warned by his partners to keep his hands to himself and act professionally, but he is drawn to Angela in a way completely foreign to him. And his need to protect her from both a stocker and the killer they are hunting only drives his need to have her himself, even if it destroys his career.
