This lesbian romance short story will focus on Beth and Emily, who work together at the same design firm. Emily is in a relationship with a guy, Nathan, and Beth is a lesbian is out, and despite knowing that Emily is straight, she’s nursed a crush on her for years. The two of them are assigned to the same project at work, and begin spending lots of late nights together, becoming extremely close. During a moment after too much wine, Emily kisses Beth. Beth pushes her away, not wanting to become involved with someone who is just “exploring” her sexuality, but Emily convinces her that she’s in her right mind. Afterwards, Beth takes Emily on a date to a queer cinema, but it goes badly—Emily feels uncomfortable and awkward, she’s afraid of being spotted with a woman, and Beth feels wounded that Emily would be embarrassed to be seen with her and so unaware of her own sexuality. They get in a big fight, and Beth storms off. Emily calls out of work the next day, and ambushes Beth on the way home with the news that she’s discovered she’s a lesbian. Beth is surprised, but hears her out. Emily apologizes, desperate to make things right. The two share a kiss, and leave on uncertain terms, but at least they know they’ll give it a try.
