Zerina lives in multiple worlds: a young American-born girl born to Saudi Arabian parents, a Muslim living in a secular/Christian country, a native of holospace, and a member of a new international generation. At 18, she is trying to navigate the dangerously contradictory waters of the intersection of these worlds, while trying to grow into an adult. She has fallen in love with a man named Iqraam, a college senior born and raised in Afghanistan. She has never actually met Iqraam in person to date, only in holospace. However, holospace has become increasingly realistic, and people can meet and interact almost as they do in the real world - except that touch sensation is highly limited.

Zerina must navigate the often-contradictory messages about who she should be and discover who she really is. Her decisions cannot please everyone, so she must choose carefully. The path she picks will have consequences.
