This collection is a trilogy of process rather than calculation. As I researched the background for To the end of the Trail, I came across key elements of what became Henry and Isaac; the same applied to it and East Texas Blues and one of the links between the first two also provided a link to East Texas Blues. I also realised, as I wrote that, that each of them dealt successively with a set of themes in Nineteenth Century American History that interested me and might interest readers.

They can be read separately and in any order. I think - and reviewers indicate - that they are good stories in their own right, but for those who wish to follow the chronology which arose from them, they are included in that way in this omnibus edition.
