“Fever’s gone,” the doctor said, telling him something he already knew. His hand dropped and Jack caught it, bringing it up to his lips. The doctor’s hand was soft and he kissed his palm, closing his eyes so that he couldn’t see Elliot’s immediate reaction. He was worried the man would hate him.

Jack’s heart was beating fast in his chest as he looked up. Elliot’s lips were parted. “Captain?” he murmured.

“Elliot, I’m sorry.” Tears filled his eyes and the doctor’s figure swam in his vision. He needed forgiveness.

The doctor’s hand moved across his cheek, brushing strands of hair from his brow. His pale eyes flitted to Jack’s lips, and Jack felt his hand trembling against his skin. Then he leaned forward and softly pressed his mouth to the captain’s. Jack felt a rush of shame as the doctor kissed him, thinking about the last time they had been like this. Then desire overcame him, and he pressed back hungrily, his hand reaching to cradle the doctor’s blond head and pull him in.
