Excerpt:

“I got you a gift,” he said proudly, holding out a small velvet box in the palm of his hand.

“René… you shouldn’t have.” Lexi’s head spun with the possibilities of what could be in that box. Typically only jewelry came in boxes like that. Surely she wasn’t receiving jewelry from a man she’d just met that morning.

She opened the box and beamed at him with what she saw; it was a beautifully crafted decorative hair comb with poppies made from rubies.

“Do you like it?” He sounded nervous as he took the comb and put it in her hair, gently tucking a strand behind her ear and resting his hand on her cheek.

“I love it!” she said happily, leaning into his hand. Their eyes locked and Lexi moved forward for the kiss she knew was coming.

Their lips barely touched when the butler interrupted them.

“Monsieur, the car is ready for you.”

René growled for only a moment as he pulled away from the kiss that teased them both.

“Thank you, Pierre,” he said, dismissing the butler.

“To be continued, lovely Lexi,” his voice was honey-coated and full of sensual promise.
