Israel Ireland has more than a strange name. He has a strange condition. The young slacker is hopelessly in love with his beautiful psychiatrist, who thinks he’s crazy... as does most of his small town. Israel is convinced that, sometimes, he swaps into other people during his sleep, and that they swap into him. Every now and then one of his ‘swaps’ will awaken in his body, with unpredictable results.

Are the supposed consciousness transfers just delusions, or is something unexplained occurring in Ruidoso, New Mexico? Israel sets out to prove to Dr. Karen Osgood that his version of reality is real. Before long, it turns out that it is perhaps even more real than he and his psychiatrist can believe.
