In this version 2 of the historical novel, Leon and Esther, careful editing has resulted in a smoother, more readable text. The basic story of a rural family in Michigan in the early 20th C. remains the same. The shame of an out-of-wedlock pregnancy led to complete ruin, in those days. The decisions and the drama could be heart wrenching. The only rescue was marriage, and even with that, the stigma could last for a lifetime, even unto future generations. This is a story of the innermost struggles and emotional damage resulting from such an event and the selfless love that brought healing to an otherwise hopeless marriage.
