Sarah Madden lived the high life in Sacramento, California with her fiance Robert Beddington. US Senator Robert Beddington that is. But her once fairytale life had taken a terrible turn into the depths of hell. Robert, her once knight in shining armor, becomes power hungry and violently abusive.

Unable to stand the abuse at Robert's hand any longer, Sarah does the only thing she can think of to escape. She disappears on a Greyhound Bus headed east to a place where she could successfully hide for months and no one would look. The Appalachian Trail.

Millinocket Police Officer Owen Ferrell doesn't think much of the hiker who wanders into his town in the darkness of night. She doesn't fit. She doesn't look like any AT hiker he's ever seen, beautiful and delicate. Her face looks familiar, but Owen can't place it. Why does she look so familiar?

Owen takes a special interest to the new girl in town trying to solve the mystery as to who she is. In the mean time Sarah Madden is doing everything she can to hide exactly what he is looking for.
