Sam's Treasure by Terri Crews
Love is the greatest treasure of all. Ever since Sam budded into a beautiful young woman her pa has dressed her as a male to keep her from unwanted attention. But when his love of whiskey causes him to ramble about his 'son' Sam's keen ability to locate gold she finds herself taken hostage by lowdown lazy outlaws.
When Sheriff Trace Wallace goes undercover to find out who's been jumping claims, he overhears a plan cooked up by the greenhorn criminals to kidnap and enslave the boy to pan for them. Rather than to see the kid who is labeled a menace about town placed in jeopardy, Trace offers his help in bringing Sam to heel.
But Sam is no picnic to handle and in his attempt to tame the unruly boy Trace discovers the hidden fact. Sam was indeed Samantha. Who not only is tough but can handle a gun pretty well. She not only helps to bring in the bad guys but ensnares his heart in the process.
