Hi Donna, thank you very much for answering our questions. Paranormal/Fantasy romances are your forte, what is it about the genre that you find particularly interesting for you as a writer. Donna Grant: Thank you for having me! I think its the idea that there are no rules to follow. There's no words I can't use or scenarios that I can't put my characters in. It opens up all kinds of possibilities. What do you think are the biggest challenges when it comes to writing convincing fantasy that readers can connect with? Donna Grant: Making it believable, which isn't always easy. A reader has to actually think there could be whatever your writing. In my case, dragons. I need them to want to go to Scotland and drive around looking for my Dragon Kings. I think it takes integrating the fantasy/paranormal element in with what we know of our world. It's a delicate balance of saying here is this awesome world I've created, believe in it. All the while giving the readers something a little different without going too over the top where they roll their eyes. As a reader, what are some of your favorite paranormal / fantasy romance books? And do they also involve dragons ;) ? Donna Grant: I've got so many! I'm a huge fan of Larissa Ione, Lara Adrian, Kresley Cole, and Karen Marie Moning. Their paranormal/fantasy worlds are to die for! Whatever they write, I'm hooked! Your upcoming release 'Soul Scorched' is the 6th book in the Dark Kings series. Tell us more about this world you created. Donna Grant: My world I created started simply. Dragons ruled the earth. Until humans one day showed up. The Dragon Kings were then able to shift from human to dragon and back again at will, but there was no lasting peace between the two races. There was a war, and the dragons were sent away. The Dragon Kings remained to protect this realm while hiding their true selves and living on their estate in Scotland, Dreagan. All the while they're fighting other creatures like the Fae, protecting the humans without us ever knowing it. But the Fae aren't giving up. A war is coming, and the humans are about to learn who is living alongside them. Whilst all the books in the series can be read as a stand alone, there is an overarching plot as well. Can you give us some teasers of what to expect next? Donna Grant: Yes, there is an overarching plot. There is a banished Dragon King - Ulrik - who has been planning his revenge against those on Dreagan. Then there is a Light Fae - Rhi - who is in a love with a Dragon King. We've yet to find out who he is, but she's going to have to make some decisions which will have a ripple effect on the Fae, dragons, and humans. Who is the villain, who can be trusted, and who really wants what?
More Dragon Kings are waking. There's a new one about to show up that is going to cause all kinds of havoc. Then there's Balladyn, a Dark Fae who will stop at nothing to have Rhi for his own.
